If you're carrying the weight of a painful relationship, a past trauma, or a difficult relationship with food or your body, you don't have to keep carrying it alone. I'm Katalin Szabo, a licensed psychologist (PsyD) with over a decade of clinical experience in the Bay Area and in my home country of Hungary. I work with adults and couples on three things I see most often: relationship struggles, trauma, and disordered eating. I've also integrated EMDR into my practice for clients working through trauma that talk therapy alone hasn't fully resolved.

My approach blends psychodynamic and attachment-based work with EMDR and trauma-focused techniques, tailored to what you actually need. Not a one-size-fits-all method. Some clients want to understand why a pattern keeps repeating. Others need their nervous system to finally feel calm or safe again. We'll figure out together which you need, and when.

What Therapy With Me Looks Like

You don't have to have it all figured out before you reach out. Therapy starts with something simple: a relationship where you feel safe enough to be honest, maybe for the first time in a while.

As we build that trust together, we'll gently look at the patterns, memories, and feelings that have been shaping your life quietly, in the background. Some of that looks like traditional talk therapy: making sense of why something keeps happening, until it finally starts to loosen its hold. For clients carrying trauma that talk therapy alone hasn't fully resolved, I also offer EMDR, which helps your body and nervous system heal, not just your mind.

This isn't about fixing what's wrong with you. It's about understanding yourself with more compassion, and building the kind of life and relationships that actually feel good to be in. You don't have to do it alone. I'd be glad to walk alongside you.

"In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety."

Abraham Maslow

Are You Ready?

If you're reading this, some part of you is already considering it, and that counts for something. You don't need to have the right words, a clear diagnosis, or even a "big enough" reason. Wanting things to feel different is reason enough.

It's normal to feel unsure. Maybe you're worried about being judged, or about what to even say in a first session, or whether therapy is worth the time and cost. Those doubts are common, and we can talk through them together, starting with a free 15-minute consultation, no pressure, no commitment.

Reaching out isn't a sign that something is wrong with you. It's a sign of strength, and often the first real step toward feeling like yourself again. When you're ready, I'm here.
